City Turns to Province for Funding Ahead of Marijiuana Legalization

The City will ask for help from the province to deal with the effects of the legalization of marijuana.

Councillors approved asking for money from Cannibis Tax revenue for local public health boards, and for the extra cost of policing.

Staff say police will need extra training to detect people impaired by the drug while driving, before legalization takes effect this summer.

The city has also requested retail outlets that sell marijuana be kept 300 metres from schools or businesses that cater to children.
