Council Preview: April 3

Pay cheques for Kingston's Mayor and Councillors will be the main topic of conversation at Tuesday night's city council meeting.

The citizen's committee recommends Councillors get a bump in pay to $40,000 and the Mayor get a raise to just over $116,000.

Right now, city Councillors are paid $31,000 a year, while the Mayor brings home $94,000.

If approved, the pay increases would come into effect in December of 2018, after the municipal election.

City Council will also be asked to approve the purchase of two new fire trucks at their meeting.

The two pumpers would cost more than $675,000 a piece.

They would replace two trucks that will reach its 20-year lifecycle over the next year.
