Council Preview: May 1, 2018.
The KRC could soon be called the Leon's Centre, if city council approves a motion at Tuesday night's meeting to change the naming rights of the arena and entertainment venue.
The name change would come into effect on July 1 at a cost of just over $257,000 per year for five years, with an option to extend for another five years.
Councillors will also vote on a motion that would move the Third Crossing project forward another step.
There will be a request on the table to give staff the authority to move ahead with negotiations to acquire lands on the west side, which are needed to build the bridge
The city has set a deadline of 3:00 p.m. Wednesday to submit bids to design and build the bridge over the Cataraqui River but a group opposed to the $180 million dollar project want the vote to be delayed until May 15, when all bids can be thoroughly looked over.
We could see more orange bikes downtown this summer.
DropBike, the company that operated a bike-sharing pilot project last year is the leading contender to set up 200 bikes at 50 fixed stations for the next three years at no cost to the city.
City Council will vote on a recommendation at its meeting to spend $30,000 on extra bike stations to make the program more visible at its July 1 kickoff.
