Driver in Fatal Hit and Run Sentenced to Jail Time
The driver involved in a fatal hit and run almost two years ago has been sentenced to 9 months behind bars.
Kevin Heymans, 54, pleaded guilty in January to failing to remain at the scene of an accident to render assistance on the night of December 8, 2016.
The man, who did not have a license or insurance, struck and killed Christine Thompson, 41, as she was walking home from work on Princess Street, just west of the Midland Avenue.
Thompson was rushed to hospital by paramedics but died 14 hours later.
On top of jail time, Heymans was fined $5,000 plus an additional $1,250 victim-fine surcharge.
Thompson was a mother of two and worked at the Home Depot in the RioCan Centre for 14 years.
