Edge Lighting Temporarily Down along Main runway at Kingston Airport

There were a lot of unhappy travelers at the Kingston airport this long weekend.

On Thursday, a cable supplying electricity to edge lighting along the main north-south runway was damaged.

It happened during construction to extend the runway, which is part of the Kingston Airport expansion project.

Many night flights in and out of Norman Rogers airport were canceled or delayed as a result.

"We are hopeful this situation will be resolved as early as this Tuesday," says Rick Reed, manager of the Kingston Airport.

The runway did remain open during daylight hours, and the secondary east-west runway was fully open.

"It's an unfortunate situation, and we feel for those impacted by it. However, safety is paramount and it's incumbent upon an airport to notify clients (airlines) of any circumstances that may impact their ability to land or take-off safely," says Reed.
