End of 2017 Boating Season on Rideau Canal

This long weekend marked the end of boating season on the Rideau Canal.

Parks Canada will close the Canal's 24 lockstations between Ottawa and Kingston on Tuesday, October 10.

From mid-October until mid-November, water levels in the Rideau Canal system will be decreased to winter storage levels by adjusting dams and spillways in order to prepare for freeze up and to reduce the possibility of spring flooding.

Boaters are being reminded that during the non-navigation season, aids to navigation may be missing, off-station, or inoperable until next spring.

Everyone is being urged to use caution in and around canal structures and channels over the winter months.
