Final Phase of Princess Street Reconstruction Set to Begin January 8
The final phase of the "Big Dig" on Princess Street is set to begin next week.
The reconstruction, to start on January 8, will move up Princess Street from Clergy to Division over the coming months.
Barrie Street from south of Princess to Queen and Division Street from Brock to Colborne will also be affected.
"We started re-making Princess Street at Lake Ontario in 2010," says Mark Campbell, acting director of engineering.
"This year we'll finish completely reconstructing the historic infrastructure under busy downtown Princess Street. While this work is admittedly disruptive, it will help support the economy of our vibrant downtown for decades to come."
Princess Street is expected to re-open on July 1, but until that time, all businesses will remain open.
This is the final phase of work to Princess Street, that is guided by the City's Downtown Action Plan, which covers the 39 blocks of downtown.
