Kingston Could Become a Cruise Ship Destination
Kingston is one step closer to becoming a cruise ship destination.
City Council approved using $500,000 from the Environment Reserve Fund to cover the cost of dredging to build a deep water dock next to 1 Queen Street Wharf.
Mayor Bryan Paterson says the move will allow the city to tap into this tourism market and redevelop a section of the downtown waterfront.
The city will also get some advice on tall buildings and urban intensification from a consulting company led by an award winning city plan.
Councillors voted unanimously in favour to hire Toderian UrbanWORKS at a cost of almost $54,000, to develop new plans to increase the number of housing projects in the city, which will include tall buildings.
The company will also be responsible for assisting staff to revise guidelines for developments focusing on increased height or density.
