Kingston Police Explain What Led To Monday's Standoff

Kingston Police are releasing more details about Monday's standoff with a man, that ended in his death.

Police say it all began with an assault on a woman as she left work.

Around 3:00 p.m., the suspect, who was known to the woman, approached her as she was walking her bicycle on Beverly Street.

Police allege that the suspect exited his vehicle with a shotgun and started beating the victim with it, and then attempted to drag her into an SUV.

She was able to escape and fled to a nearby residence for help and that's when the suspect fired two shots at her before fleeing the area.

The woman was not hit but she was badly beaten and taken to hospital to be treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Not long after, officers located the suspect at a residence on Compton Street and that's when the standoff began.

The Special Investigations Unit continues to investigate what transpired on Compton Street.
