Local Students Affected by Diplomatic Tensions between Canada and Saudi Arabia
St. Lawrence College says their Saudi students are in limbo until officials recieve more information about where the students will be going, and what they need to transfer.
The Saudi government has ordered all of its students and patients to leave Canadian universities and hospitals.
The move comes after tweets by Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland and her department criticized the arrest of several social activists, and urged their release, which prompted a swift suspension of diplomatic relations.
35 Saudi students are attending St Lawrence College, and are mostly in the Business Administration Degree program in Kingston.
Many of those students are entering their final year, and it's unclear how their courses will transfer and where the Saudi government will send them.
37 Queen's University medical students are also being affected by the diplomatic tensions.
College officials say they will be waiting on instructions and will reach out to the students once they have a clearer picture of next steps.
