Lockdown Ordered at Collins Bay Institution

The medium security unit at Collins Bay Institution is in lockdown after a number of unauthorized items were seized on Wednesday, August 8.

An exceptional search is now underway, and normal operations will resume as soon as it's considered safe to do so.

Meanwhile, a number of unauthorized items were found during exceptional searches at Joyceville and Millhaven Institutions.

The lockdown put in place at the assessment unit of Joyceville on July 31, and at Millhaven on August 1, have both been lifted.

The Correctional Service of Canada has not revealed what exactly was seized in all three institutions.

CSC does say they work in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to have contraband brought into institutions.

CSC has also set up a telephone tip line for all federal institutions to receive information about activities
relating to security at its institutions.

It could be related to drug use or trafficking that may threaten the safety and security of visitors, inmates and staff members working at CSC institutions.

The toll-free number, 1-866-780-3784, helps ensure that the information shared is protected and that callers remain
anonymous.
