Man Charged After Alcohol-Induced Domestic Incident

A Kingston man, 69,  faces multiple charges after Police say he assaulted his common-law partner before trying to drive drunk.

On Monday night, the accused was drinking and allegedly became verbally abusive with the victim over what she was making for dinner.

Later that evening, Police say, the accused the went into the bedroom, where the victim was laying down, and physically kicked her out of bed.

When the victim called police, the accused attempted to leave in a vehicle but while reversing out of the driveway, he ran into a ditch.

Officers located the accused hiding and passed out in a garden shed and because he wouldn't wake up, paramedics were called and he was transported to hospital.

Once he woke up and was medically cleared, he was transported to police headquarters where he was found to have just under 1 and a half times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

He was charged with assault, care and control of a vehicle while impaired by alcohol, and over 80 mg of alcohol care and control.

The accused was later released with a future court date and his driver's licence was automatically suspended for 90 days.
