Man Sentenced for Rape and Forcible Confinement on Wolfe Island

The man who confined a woman in an unheated shed on Wolfe Island and sexually assaulted her in the winter of 2015, will spend another eight years behind bars.

Michael Burnett, 40, was sentenced on Tuesday to 10 years in prison but was given credit for time spent in custody while awaiting trial.

Burnett will not be eligible for parole until he's served half of his sentence.

When the judge asked for any final words before delivering his decision, Burnett stood and said he was not guilty, and wished to appeal the decision.
