Collins Bay in Lockdown Following Violent Altercation

The Maximum Security Unit at Collins Bay is in lockdown following a physical altercation last week involving a number of inmates.

The Correctional Service of Canada says several inmates were involved in a physical altercation around 9:00 p.m. on April 20, resulting in one injured inmate being transported to hospital for treatment.

No other inmates or staff reported injuries.

The OPP Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad and Collins Bay staff say the assailants have been identified and appropriate actions are being taken while they continue to investigate.

As a result, the facility has been placed in lockdown so staff can conduct an exceptional search, which also means visitations have been suspended.

Normal operations will resume when it is considered safe to do so.
