Good Guys Stop New Years Eve Sexual Assault

Kingston Police would like to speak with two good guys who helped a woman escape a sexual assault on New Years Day.

Shortly before 3:00 a.m. on January 1, Police say the victim was leaving The Spot Nightclub with a man she had met that night when he began sexually assaulting her.

The woman told police she resisted and screamed for help.

That is when she say the two men ran towards her screams, causing the perpetrator to flee.

The two men then assisted the woman into the nearby Burger King restaurant and told staff what had happened.

Staff called police and officers were dispatched to the scene, however the men left before they arrived.

Police would like to speak with these two as they are witnesses to the event and could have valuable first hand information.

The female victim was assessed and taken to hospital as a precaution and to collect potential evidence through Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence nursing staff.

The victim was able to provide police enough information to track down the suspect, 20, at a Queen Mary Road Apartment building around 3:45 a.m.

He was arrested for sexual assault, held overnight for a bail hearing, and remanded into custody.

While an arrest has been made, detectives in the Sexual Crime Unit still want to gather as much evidence as possible.

Any witnesses, especially the two men who helped the female victim are asked to contact Detective Brenda Lavigne at 613-549-4660 ext 6270 or via email at blavigne@kpf.ca
