Impaired Driver Collides with Hydro Pole
A local man, 38, faces impaired driving charges following a hit and run collision that ended when he struck a utility pole early Sunday morning.
Police say the man was eastbound on Bath Rd at Sir John A. around 1:15 a.m. when he slammed into another car stopped at a red light.
The collision was so forceful, one of the passengers in the victims vehicle was taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries.
Police say the suspect was then spotted a short time later driving on Stephen Street where he attempted to turn onto Patrick Street but lost lost control of his vehicle .
The accused took out a small fence before hitting the utility pole and finally coming to a stop.
Officers arrested the driver and he was taken to police headquarters for a breathalyser test.
Police say the man blew two and a half times over the legal limit and he was charged with impaired driving, impaired operation of a motor vehicle over 80 mg, and leaving the scene of a collision.
His licence was suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded .
He was eventually released with a future court date.
