Mayor Delivers Report on China Investment Trip

Mayor Bryan Paterson says a second Chinese company plans to join Feihe International Inc as they build a multi-million dollar baby formula manufacturing plant in Kingston.

During a press conference Tuesday afternoon at Innovation Park, the Mayor said the second company will be affiliated with the plant, but on a smaller scale, and that an announcement with more details will be made later this year.

The mayor and a small group of delegates returned from China last week after touring Feihe's facilities including dairy farms that supply their operations.

He says this is when the group learned of the businesses plans to also set up shop in the Limestone City.

While the goal of the trip was to visit the facilities and get a feel for how the company runs their operations, Mayor Patterson says the trip was also to attract other Chinese investments to Kingston.

The site of the Feihe plant is currently being prepped and the next step will be to begin hiring for the nearly 200 jobs required to run the plant.

More details on that are expected later this year.
