OPP Conduct March Break Distracted Driving Blitz

OPP are cracking down on distracted driving during March Break.

From March 13 until March 19, police will be looking for drivers of all ages who are distracted by hand held devices or other things while behind the wheel.

Fines for Distracted Driving start at $490 and three demerit points, and can rise to $1000 if contested and convicted.

The campaign is part of the OPP's planned Provincial Traffic Safety Campaigns.

In 2015, 299 fatalities were investigated on OPP patrolled highways, and 69 of them were as a result of drivers being distracted.

Police want to remind you that every driver on the highway has a responsibility to direct their entire attention to driving safely.
