Plant Powers Down in Kingston

Northland Power's Kingston Generating Station has shut down after its 20-year contract with the province expired last night, and was not renewed, leaving 18 people without a job.

The company in charge of the natural gas and steam powered turbines, non-utility generating station says they are looking at possible contracts in New York to try and restart the plant.

The shut down comes on the heels of news that executive salaries at Ontario Power Generation are expected to increase up to $8-million over the next few years, while hydro costs continue to rise.
