Paving Runway Extension at Kingston's Airport has Begun
Crews are paving the way for the airport expansion project at Norman Rogers.
Paving of the north extension for the north-south runway at the Kingston Airport is now underway.
"This is an exciting next step in a project that will benefit residents of Kingston, and neighbouring regions," says Rick Reed, airport manager.
To facilitate this work, the north-south runway will be closed from October 15 to the 29.
During this time, air traffic will temporarily be diverted to the east-west runway, which will cause a short-term change to existing flight patterns around the airport.
"Extending a runway seems like a simple undertaking. But it requires many steps, that we are carefully following to ensure the runway complies with Canadian airport standards," says Reed.
"We thank residents and travelers for their patience and understanding as we continue our work to make the Kingston Airport a destination and send-off fitting of our innovative city."
