Pedestrian Crosswalk to Replace Fencing at Breakwater Park

The fence around Breakwater Park will be taken down next month and be replaced with a pedestrian crosswalk.

The park was a popular spot when it opened this summer for sunbathers and swimmers, but many pedestrians were jaywalking across King Street to get there.

City Council voted unanimously at Tuesday's meeting to install a crosswalk at the corner of King and Beverley Streets.

It's estimated that about 2,000 people were crossing King Street per day during the hottest times this summer.

Construction on the crosswalk is already underway but the chain link fence will not be taken down until work is completed.

The pedestrian crossing will be similar to the one that is near the Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario at Kingston General Hospital and at the Tett Centre.
