Picton Man Faces Multiple Offences in Children's Aid Society Investigation
A Picton man is facing 20 charges following a OPP investigation into allegations of wrongdoing in connection with the operation of an agency that placed foster children in homes.
OPP began an investigation in early 2016 into the operations of the former Prince Edward County Children's Aid Society between 2002 and 2010.
It involved a review of previous abuse investigations and convictions, trial transcripts and the outcome of subsequent civil proceedings between 2013 and 2016.
OPP say officers then conducted additional interviews, executed search warrants and seized evidence.
As a result, William Sweet, 67, the former Executive Director of the local children's aid agency, was charged with 10 counts each of criminal negligence causing bodily harm and failing to provide the necessaries of life.
Police would not comment on specific details of the allegations to protect the integrity of ensuing court process.
OPP did note that the Highland Shores Children's Aid Society is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
