Prince Edward County Lifts Water Emergency

A water state of emergency for Picton and Bloomfield has been lifted.

Prince Edward County's Mayor got multiple test results back yesterday morning, which showed water from the Picton Water Plant was safe to drink again.

It was back on March 28 when the emergency was declared, four days after a barge partially sunk and released contaminants into Picton Bay.

A boil water advisory was issued not long after as a precaution but that was lifted late last week by the Hastings and Prince Edward Health Unit.

It's still unclear how much of a financial impact the incident has had on the municipality.

The County is now working on a plan that could avoid a similar situation in the future.
