Saturday is Giveaway Day in Kingston

You can celebrate Earth Day on April 22, by taking part in Giveaway Day.

It's one of the few times of the year where you can put out items to the curb you no longer want - but someone else could use.

"Giveaway Day and Earth Day share a similar purpose: they are both aimed at getting us to take action to reduce the impact we have on the environment. The Earth wins when we keep items that are still useful out of landfill," says Heather Roberts, the City of Kingston's manager of solid waste.

Giveaway Day is one of the ways the city is working to help meet its goal to divert 60 per-cent of household waste from landfills by 2018.

You can share pictures of what you have to giveaway or what you found via social media using the Hashtag #WasteNotYGK

Just make sure you take everything back inside that hasn't been taken at the end of the day.
