Switchgear Issue Causes Widespread Power Outage
A switchgear issue at a substation is to blame for one of Kingston's largest power outages in recent years.
Roughly 5,000 customers in the city's central area and Inner Harbour woke up in the dark Thursday morning.
Several traffic lights, including the ones at the intersection of Montreal and Railway streets, were also not functioning, resulting in some minor traffic delays.
Utilities Kingston crews spent the morning re-routing power, which was fully restored by 10:30.
What exactly caused the fault in the first place is still unknown, and under investigation.
