Tragic Weekend on the Ice
It's been a tragic weekend on the lakes north of Kingston.
One man died after his ATV fell through the ice on Buck Lake, and the bodies of two other men were recovered from another lake.
Provincial police say Darrell Green, 61, was pronounced dead at the scene late Saturday morning.
The bodies of Michael Carty, 72, and Harold Good, 69, were recovered Sunday evening by a police dive team at Big Rideau Lake.
The men were reported missing Friday evening after heading out on the ice in a truck that morning.
They were believed to be heading to Cow Island when they went missing.
OPP continue to investigate their deaths and do not suspect any foul play.
Councillor Good has represented the Township of Rideau Lakes on the Cataraqui Region Board since 2015 and at the management board’s most recent meeting on February 23, he was once again elected chairperson for the forthcoming year.
“Anyone who has met Doug knows that he is truly dedicated to the work being done by staff, board and volunteers of the Cataraqui Trail and the CRCA," says Tom Beaubiah, Conservation Lands Lead for the CRCA, the staff member who worked most frequently, closely and directly with Councillor Good.
"As a tireless volunteer, he brought an energy, passion and good humour to his work, and was an individual who just knew how to get things done. He is going to be missed by everyone associated with both the Cataraqui Trail and the CRCA."
