United Way of KFL&A Surpasses Fundraising Goal

The United Way of KFL&A has surpassed this year's fundraising goal.

The goal was set at $3.50-million at the 2017 campaign kick off near the end of September.

During Thursday morning's touchdown breakfast, it was revealed that $3,504,001 was raised by the local community.

"It was a lot of fun to be a part of the campaign here,"says Pat Murphy, 2017 campaign chair.

"I am very proud of what our community was able to accomplish, and want people to know their donation makes a huge difference; that every dollar counts."

Mayor Bryan Paterson announced that an additional $80,000, 50 per-cent of the profits from this year's Kingston Penitentiary Tours will be dedicated to supporting United Way's community youth homelessness initiative.

"We are very grateful to receive this support," added Murphy.

All money raised will start being distributed locally, almost immediately.

Last year, 45 agencies, representing 72 different programs received funding support from the United Way, which helped over 55,000 people in our community.
