Volunteers Needed for Homeless Count

Volunteers are needed for another point in time homeless count.

The first count, which established a baseline number of inviduals experiencing homelessess, was held back in 2013.

This second count will be able to measure any progress that's been made in reducing homelessness in the Kingston area.

The city has already developed a 10 year municipal housing and homelessness plan.

A point in time count is a census of people who are homeless at the time of the count, and includes asking individuals who are encountered to complete a brief, anonymous survey.

"Having both 2016 and 2018 data will give us a much clearer picture as to the progress the community's efforts are making and indicate how best to continue to align resources in order to achieve the long-term goal of ending homelessness here in Kingston" says Bhavana Varma, President & CEO, United Way KFL&A.

You must be 18 years of age or older, and available from 5:00 p.m. to midnight on the evening of the count.

A mandatory information and training session will be held on April 11 at Regiopolis Notre Dame Secondary School from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
