Watermain Break Shuts Down Princess Street Staple

A watermain break flooded a handful of businesses on Princess street this past Saturday.

It started around 10:30 a.m., when the owner of Tommy's restaurant noticed water seeping in through the walls of his diner.

Both Brian's Record Option and Pita Pitt's basements were completely flooded.

The water eventually poured into the main area of Brian's retail space, rising close to knee height.

His shop was the worst hit, destroying most of his merchandise,  vinyl, cd's and other memorabilia he's been collecting for nearly 40 years.

Tommy's staff were able to clean up their space and re-open for dinner, but Brian has yet to re-open, and it's still unclear what insurance will cover.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Brian get back on his feet so he won't be forced to close his doors for good.

The City of Kingston is still investigating the cause of the watermain break.
