Ariana Grande Sings 'Yours Truly' Throwback Tracks In Honor of Mom's Birthday
Ariana Grande paid special tribute to her mom at her Charlotte, North Carolina, concert Monday night.
In honor of Joan Grande’s birthday, Ariana sang two of her mom’s favorite songs: "Tattooed Heart" and "Piano" from Ari’s 2013 album Yours Truly.
"It’s actually a very special day: Today is my mom’s birthday," Ariana told the crowd. "I haven’t done these songs in a couple years but... they’re mom’s favorites... She’s like, ‘Why don’t you do those songs?’"
Ari also took to her social media to celebrate her mom’s special day. "Happy birthday to the most incredible human being in the universe @joangrande see u soooon," Ariana tweeted in a message to her mom. Ariana also shared several throwback posts in honor of Joan’s birthday. In one photo, a baby Ariana can be seen sitting in the grass beside her mom.
"happy birthday best friend @joangrande you are the strongest, most generous, funniest and most fiercely compassionate human being in the universe and i’m so grateful to learn from you and to be your daughter," the "God Is a Woman" singer wrote alongside the picture.
Her mom tweeted her gratitude, writing, "After midnight & I want to thank my daughter for the most spectacular birthday, beyond thoughtful surprises so honored that you sang those extra songs for me.. wow, I am one lucky woman.. thank you for all the beautiful birthday wishes & thank you to this birthday, here’s to NEXT."
In more Ariana news, she has donated proceeds of her June 8th sold-out Atlanta concert performance to Planned Parenthood, according to TMZ. That is a heft donation of $300.000, the site said. Georgia is one of the states that passed the "fetal heartbeat" abortion law. The new restrictions have triggered a call for a boycott of the Peach State, and some entertainment companies have already pulled the plug on production.
Meanwhile, Ariana has added two more London dates to her Sweetener World Tour due to demand. Ari is already due to play three nights at The O2 between August 17th and August 20th, but she has now announced two further nights at the 20,000-capacity arena on October 15th and October 16th.
The UK leg will see Aridana play two nights at Birmingham Arena on September 14th and September 15th, Glasgow’s SSE Hydro on September 17th and Sheffield’s FlyDSA Arena on September 19th.
