David Bowie 'Barbie' Doll And 'Space Oddity' Single Set Out Now

Just released is Mattel's new "Barbie as Bowie" doll honoring David Bowie. Billboard reported, "the doll is dressed as the late superstar's extraterrestrial glam-rock alter ego, Ziggy Stardust, complete with his iconic striped metallic 'space suit' and platform red boots. The dramatic look is topped off with Ziggy's signature fiery-red hairdo and astral sphere forehead icon." The "Barbie as Bowie" doll sells for $50.

Released today (July 12th) in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Bowie's signature "Space Oddity" single is a seven-inch vinyl EP box set.

According to the press release, the package includes "a special double seven-inch single of 'Space Oddity' featuring brand new remixes by Tony Visconti. The set and a one-track digital single of the single edit of the 2019 mix of 'Space Oddity' for streaming and download. (The box includes) a double-sided poster featuring an original 'Space Oddity' press advertisement and a Ray Stevenson shot of David taken on stage at the Save Rave '69 concert at the London Palladium on November 30th, 1969, the backdrop featuring a N.A.S.A. astronaut. The set also includes an information card and a print featuring an alternative shot by Jojanneke Claassen from the 'Space Oddity' promo single cover session."

Shortly before his 2016 death, David Bowie admitted to us he had kept himself sheltered from how his various labels have revamped and repackaged his older material over the decades: "I gotta say, I've got blinkers on for all that. I just try so hard to stay in the moment. It's quite easy to do -- I'm quite good at ignoring things."
