George Strait Announces New Album, Single
George Strait will release a new album called Honky Tonk Time Machine on Friday, March 29th. The project features 12 original titles plus "King George's" version of the Johnny Paycheck classic "Old Violin." This will be George's 30th career studio album, which he co-produced alongside Chuck Ainlay. He also co-wrote eight of the tracks, including "Sing One with Willie" featuring Willie Nelson that the pair debuted at a recent Nashville show, marking the first time the two country icons have ever shared the stage.
The album's lead single is called "God and Country Music," and it introduces a very special vocal guest, George’s grandson, Harvey Strait.
George said, "I’m really excited to have some new music coming out. It’s been about two years since I’ve released a record . . . Also, it was a very special thing for me to be able to write and sing one with the legend Willie Nelson. I hope everyone enjoys listening to Honky Tonk Time Machine as much as I enjoyed making it."
Other than having multiple platinum songs, numerous awards and 60 Number One hits, one thing remains the same for George – his consistency. He tells us: "Consciously, the only thing I did was just try to go out and find the best songs I could find, cut the best songs I could cut, and there’s been times when I’ve gone in the studio with a song that I thought would be great for me and after about two or three tries I just can’t because it’s just not working, whether it’s vocally or whether I’m just not feeling the song at all. There’s been a few of those times, not a lot of them but there have been a few of them. So I think I’ve been – I think I know what works for me. Like I said there’s been a few times where I’ve been fooled but it but I think for the most part I know what’s going to work for me and I know what I like and I’ve always said it’s the melody that catches me the first time I hear a song and then you kind of go back and listen to what the song is about and what it’s saying. So if both of those are good then you get the whole package."
George performed his 21st and 22nd sold out Strait to Vegas shows at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena this past weekend.
