Ghost will reportedly release a two-song seven-inch single, "Kiss The Go-Goat / Mary On A Cross", on September 13th. The single is scheduled to arrive on the same day as the deluxe version of the band's latest album, 2018's Prequelle, which may include the same two tracks as well.

Ghost has not yet confirmed the release of any new material, but frontman Tobias Forge said in a November 2018 interview that fans could be hearing fresh music from the band before the end of this year. He explained, "My intention is not to release just another EP of covers. There might be something else coming out next year, maybe, that might have been recorded already, that won't be covers."

Ghost has issued two EPs in recent years between full-length albums. Both contained mostly cover songs, while 2016's Popestar featured the chart-topping original tune "Square Hammer."

Forge told us a while back that "Square Hammer" was written at the tail end of the sessions for the band's 2015 Grammy-winning album Meliora: "It was conceived around the end of the conception of Meliora, but I guess by then Meliora had -- the conceptual aspects of it was already in place and 'Square Hammer' felt like a different song. So we basically saved it until a rainy day, and that rainy day came a few months later and we recorded it."

Forge has confirmed in several recent interviews that he plans to enter the studio in early 2020 to begin work on the follow-up to Prequelle, which debuted at Number Three on the Billboard album chart last year.
