JAY-Z DENIES OWING MUSIC TO MUSIC VETERAN FOR 'REASONABLE DOUBT': According to The Jasmine Brand, JAY-Z has denied that he owes music veteran, Ray Herbert, royalties from his debut album, Reasonable Doubt. JAY responded in court, denying allegations that he owes Herbert compensation from the album. He has also denied claims that he entered a deal giving Herbert 1 percent of the sales. As previously reported, Herbert sued JAY-Z back in June, claiming that he was owed royalties. Herbert also claimed that he used contacts to secure JAY's Roc-A-Fella deal in 1995. The man suing JAY said that he was paid for years until he stopped receiving checks in 2008. He claims he reached out to JAY's team two years later, but never heard back. Herbert sued, demanding accounting for all sales of the album and for monetary damages.
JAY-Z, QUESTLOVE AND MORE DECLINED INTERVIEWS FOR DOCUSERIES ON R.KELLY: According to VIBE, dream hampton, the executive producer for the Lifetime docuseries Surviving R. Kelly, said that numerous celebrities declined interviews for the documentary. In a recent interview, hampton said, "'John Legend was the only one. I asked JAY-Z, I asked Mary J. Blige, I asked Lil Kim, Erykah Badu, Dave Chappelle...' But they all said no. 'I mean, most people just don't want to touch it. I remember Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson was like, 'I would do anything for you but I can't do this.' It's not because they support him, it's because it's so messy and muddy. It's that turning away that has allowed this to go on.'"
SLIM JXMMI INVOLVED IN NEW ZEALAND STREET FIGHT: Rae Sremmurd’s Slim Jxmmi was involved in a brawl in New Zealand, which resulted in one person being hospitalized. According to TMZ, the rapper and his crew were sightseeing in downtown Auckland on Thursday (January 3rd), when the fight broke out after someone allegedly started recording video of the group. The unauthorized filming was supposed to have led to the fight, during which a bottle was broken and used as a weapon. In the video footage obtained by the publication, Jxmmi is seen on the ground wrestling with several people, including a woman, while punches are exchanged. It is unclear who was stabbed or did the stabbing. The police are investigating the incident, but no arrests have been made so far.
A$AP BARI PLEADS GUILTY TO ONE COUNT OF SEXUAL ASSAULT: According to the UK’s Mirror, A$AP Mob’s A$AP Bari has pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault. As previously reported, he was standing trial for a sexual assault case he was hit with after demanding oral sex from a woman in a video, which surfaced the net in July 2017. Bari has avoided jail time by agreeing to pay the woman $2,268 and being subjected to a restraining order. He is now prohibited from making any contact with the victim, whom he filed a defamation and civil extortion lawsuit against in August 2018.
