Hollywood Quick Hits: John Singleton & Regina King!
TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL TO HONOR JOHN SINGLETON: The Tribeca Film Festival has announced that they will be honoring the late John Singleton with a screening of his first film, Boyz N The Hood. According to VIBE, the film festival co-founder said in a statement, "John Singleton accomplished what all creators strive to do. He entertained but also inspired a generation of audiences. As the first African-American and youngest director to be nominated for an Academy Award at the age of 24, he allowed so many to envision themselves as change-makers. We want to celebrate him as we consider the legacy that he has left behind and so the Festival is adding a free screening of BOYZ N THE HOOD on Friday, May 3rd for the community to come together, see his pivotal film, and honor John." The free screening will take place at New York’s SVA theater today (May 3rd) at 5:30 p.m.
REGINA KING SIGNS FIRST-LOOK DEAL WITH NETFLIX: Deadline has reported that Regina King has signed a first-look deal with Netflix, where she will produce films and series' through her Royal Ties Production Company. King’s sister, Reina King, will serve as the head of production. Regina spoke on the deal and said, "I am beyond thrilled to join the Netflix family. They are at the top of their game and as an artist, I am so excited to come play in this wonderful sandbox they have created for storytellers."
