Industry News: Netflix, RHOA, Robert De Niro and More!

TECHIES WANT TO WORK AT NETFLIX: Move over Apple and Google. Netflix is beating out Silicon Valley’s best and brightest as the most coveted place to work for tech pros. Hired’s 2018 survey put Netflix in the top slot, ahead of Google (#2), Elon Musk’s Tesla (#3) and SpaceX (#4), Airbnb (#5) and Apple (#6). Entertainment is gaining ground: other notables were Amazon (#9), Hulu (#10), Disney (#11) and Facebook (#13). Netflix is the baby of the bunch, but is upping its R&D spending. For the second quarter of the year, Netflix shelled out $317 million in tech and development, or about 8.1% of its revenue. Where would you want to work if you could have your pick? RHOA TRAILER BRINGS THE SHADE: The ladies of Real Housewives of Atlanta are bringing the shade to Season 11, judging from the trailer that just dropped. The full trailer features weddings (Eva Marcille), babies (Porsha Williams), trips to Tokyo and plenty of sniping. Also on tap: cancer battles, open relationships, lap dances and samurai sword fights. "At the rate we're going, we're going to be married soon," Cynthia Bailey says about her new man. "Did I say soon?" SAM NEILL SIGNS ON TO STAR IN ENGLISH-LANGUAGE RAMS: The Cannes winning Icelandic film RAMS is getting recreated in English. Jeremy Sims will direct and Sam Neill and Michael Caton will depict the estranged brothers and farmers who are forced to collaborate after a crisis. "This is a story about family, connected through land and community, and the relationships at the heart of those communities," Sims said. "Regional Western Australia is a vast and complex place, and the Great Southern has such a unique flavor that audiences deserve to see it on the big screen." PICK YOUR OWN ADVENTURE AT NETFLIX? The mega-streamer Netflix is going to allow users to pick their endings for some popular shows, including Black Mirror, Bloomberg reports. The first projects will be released before the end of the year, and will be based on a model of kids shows like Puss in Book already in effect. ROBERT DE NIRO TO BE HONORED AT MARRAKECH FILM FESTIVAL: The Oscar-winning Robert De Niro is the first honoree set for the Marrakech Film Festival in November. "Although I have been to Marrakech on several occasions, I feel I am now seeing a side of Marrakech I have always wanted to see. I am most grateful for this invitation, and am looking forward to being a part of a great festival," De Niro said. He is currently working on his ninth collab with Martin Scorsese (Netflix’s The Irisman) and shooting The Joker with Joaquin Phoenix. The Marrakech Film Festival will take place Nov. 30-Dec. 8 in Morocco.
