Madonna Takes The Stage At NYC Pride Event

Madonna performed during a Pride event at Pier 97 on Sunday in New York City.

"Since I came to New York as a wee-little girl, I have always been embraced by queer nation," Madonna told the crowd during her performance. "I always felt like an outsider, but you made me feel like an insider, like somebody. So you must know how much I love and appreciate everyone here from the LGBTQ community."

Madonna’s set opened with "Vogue," and continued with "American Life," before moving on to material from her new album Madame X. She gave a speech about gun control prior to her new song on that topic, "God Control," and closed with "I Rise," an anthem of resistance.

Madonna spoke about "gun safety and gun control which is disproportionately affecting marginalized communities," before breaking out into the song, which has received criticism for depicting a shooting in the music video.
