Nipsey Hussle To Be Honored With Los Angeles Intersection Named After Him

Nipsey Hussle's hometown has announced that they will be paying homage to the late rapper by renaming the intersection of Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard after him. According to Rap-Up, the Los Angeles City Council is expected to introduce a motion to rename the intersection "Ermias ‘Nipsey Hussle’ Asghedom Square," according to Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson. The news comes after a petition was made to rename the intersection of Crenshaw and Slauson, where Nipsey was killed, to "Nipsey Hussle Way." As previously reported, Nipsey was killed outside of his Marathon Clothing store on Sunday, March 31st, which is located on Slauson and Crenshaw.

In other news, a public memorial will be held for Nipsey Hussle at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Thursday (April 11th). Tickets for the rapper's "Celebration of Life" were distributed online early Tuesday morning (April 9th) and were sold out within minutes. Organizers announced less than an hour after the tickets were made available that there were no additional tickets left.

On another note, according to The Blast, Nipsey's memorial service will feature numerous celebrity appearances, speeches and performances. The site has also reported that Anthony Hamilton will perform at the service.

It has also been reported that Nipsey's funeral procession will reportedly cover 25 miles, touching the various neighborhoods that Nipsey supported. According to TMZ, sources close to the late rapper confirmed that directly after the memorial service, "Nipsey's casket will travel to a few important landmarks, including his Marathon clothing store." The route is a little over 25 miles. The family apparently wanted to be sure that the community Nipsey loved and supported had the chance to pay their respects, as the Staples Center where the rapper's service is being held, only seats 21,000 and many may not be able to attend.

Nipsey Hussle's parents have spoken out following the rapper's death. The rapper's mom, Angelique Smith, said in a video that has surfaced the net and social media, "I have perfect peace, and I have strength, and I want to lift you up. Please do not stay down, do not stay stuck, do not mourn. Because Nipsey is great ... and now he's even greater because he has no bounds and limits. His energy is everywhere. He's there with you now and he's here with me now. And pleased be encouraged."

She continued, "When you walk this earth and you do good deeds for people, and you are loving and kind, those are the things that will show on your face. You will look more beautiful. Ermias looked healthy, he looked cleaned, he had a glow, he was radiant. And he was so perfect he had a sweet aroma ... he even smelled good. Death is just the beginning of a wonderful world. And I tell myself, Ermias liked thrilling things. And now my son knows the mystery—the secret, rather, to the mystery of life."

Meanwhile, Nipsey's father, Dawit Asghedom, and longtime girlfriend, Lauren London, have spoken to The Los Angeles Times about the late rapper. According to The Blast, Asghedom said, "It was like he was sent by God to give some love to bring us together because that’s what his lyrics were saying, always. He’s not shy to tell the truth even though it might not look good. He wasn’t scared of anything. God sent him to send a message. We all have a plan, but God has his own plan. So he had completed what he needed to be doing and he did it early so God probably want to take him early too."

London added, "I’m going to keep my head high and always represent for my king to the fullest. He loved his kids. He was a family man. His family came first."
