Paul Simon Rolls Out Oakland 'Pop Up' Show For Next Week
Paul Simon has just announced a "pop up" show set for August 9th at Oakland, California's Fox Theatre. The show will serve as a warm-up to his August 11th performance at San Francisco's Outside Lands Festival. An announcement on PaulSimon.com read: "With limited ticket availability, this is likely to sell out quickly. Tickets for the Outside Lands festival pop-up show with Paul Simon will go on sale to the general public on Friday, August 2nd at 10 a.m. PT at TheFoxOakland.com and APEConcerts.com."
Simon has named the San Francisco Parks Alliance and Friends of the Urban Forest as the recipients of all net proceeds from his August 11th headlining set at the Outside Lands Festival.
Although he's retired from touring, Paul Simon said prior to launching his farewell trek last year that he intended to continue to sporadically perform and donate the proceeds to charity -- preferably those focused on the environment.
Paul Simon remains one of the lucky performers from the 1960's who's never had to struggle to remain relevant to his audience. He shed some light on what the breakthrough in music technology really meant to his fellow musicians and the music business in general: "What happened to the music business, I think, is, y'know, a perfect storm of technology changing radically -- they could put it on their iPods, and then they tended to listen on very small headphones and that. . . that and the bandwidth, that cut down the quality of sound. That tends to bring you towards the simple electronic beat, electronic bass and maybe nothing else but voices. And the audience that listens to singles are. . . they're pretty young, like 11 to 15 or 11 to 16."
