Quickies: Mariah Carey, BTS & Katy Perry

MARIAH CAREY TO RECEIVE ICON AWARD AT BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS: Mariah Carey will be the recipient of the Icon Award at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards. Cher won the award in 2018 and performed her hits "Believe" and "If I Could Turn Back Time" at the show. Other past recipients of the award include Celine Dion, Prince, Janet Jackson, Neil Diamond, Jennifer Lopez, Stevie Wonder and more. Kelly Clarkson is hosting the show for the second year in a row and will also perform a new single. Khalid, Sam Smith, Normani, Lauren Daigle and Panic! At the Disco will also perform. Ariana Grande, Cardi B, Drake, Travis Scott, Ed Sheeran, Dan + Shay and Imagine Dragons are all up for awards. The Billboard Music Awards airs May 1st on NBC.

BTS DROPPING COLLABORATION WITH ED SHEERAN: BTS’ Map of the Soul: Persona drops today. And aside from featuring a collaboration with Halsey ("Boy With Luv"), the new album will also include the South Korean group’s long-awaited collaboration with Ed Sheeran – "Make It Right." BTS announced the news in a press release, describing the song as "delicate." In December, BTS’ Suga tweeted a teaser image of a song he was working on, addressing Sheeran and saying, "This is for you." BTS is slated to perform "Boy With Luv" on Saturday during their debut Saturday Night Live performance. BTS ARMY members have gone great lengths to score tickets to watch the group’s set. As of early Thursday morning, 98 people were camped outside the studio where the show tapes.

KATY PERRY HONORED WITH INSPIRATION AWARD AT DVF AWARDS 2019: Katy Perry was honored at Diane von Furstenberg’s female-focused awards show yesterday along with #MeToo activist Anita Hill. Perry was honored with the Inspiration DVF Award. Also honored at the event were attorney and educator Anita Hill with the Lifetime Leadership DVF Award, genocide survivors advocate Nadia Murad and The Alchemist Lab founder Hadeel Mustafa Anabtawi with the International DVF Awards, and civil rights activist Susan Burton with the People’s Voice DVF Award. Also in attendance at the event were actresses Julia Stiles and Allison Williams and models Jessica Hart and Coco Rocha.
