Rachel Bloom Confirms that Neil Patrick Harris Spat Was No Joke, Settles Beef

Former host Neil Patrick Harris live-tweeted the Tony Awards Sunday night and delivered such a serious burn to Rachel Bloom, many wondered if it was a joke.

ICYMI, Bloom was manning the chaos backstage, interviewing celebs, wearing a top hat and generally providing a little comic relief. Harris tweeted out his 7-year-old son’s (and his own) unflattering thoughts: “Who is the woman in the top hat backstage at @TheTonyAwards? Gideon remarked that she says ‘like’ and ‘oh my god’ a lot. I’m confused …”

Adding insult to injury, the pair had met before, several times. As the creator and star of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend pointed out in her own tweet, “I’m a big fan of yours. We’ve met numerous times and my husband, Dan Gregor, wrote for “How I Met Your Mother” for 5 years. Notably, he wrote the episode where your character finally meets his father.”

Harris responded, thanking her “for the reminder.” D’oh!

In an interview with GQ, she admits she was “kind of devastated.” She added: “I’ve met him a couple times. Very recently, backstage in the dressing room of a Broadway show. And we hung out for a solid 15 minutes with the star of this Broadway show. It was just bizarre to me that it wouldn’t ring a bell. And also, that he wouldn’t Google it.”

It gets worse! She revealed that she and her husband have a framed photo from the HIMYM episode on their wall, so the dis felt extra cringe-y.

“Look, he didn’t say that I was terrible. It was just kind of a random thing,” Bloom concludes. “But I think, if he wants to be gracious: He has 27 million Twitter followers. He could check out an episode of the musical TV show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend — which is, right now, the only musical show on television. And tell his 27 million Twitter followers to check it out. I wouldn’t hate that!”

Harris officially responded Wednesday afternoon, tweeting his “sincere apologies” after the interview was published, saying, “As a performer and a parent, I should have known better.”

She then took to Twitter again herslef and accepted his apology.
