Songs By Mariah Carey, George Michael, Paul McCartney Among ASCAP's 2018 Top 25 Holiday Songs List

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) has announced the top ASCAP holiday songs of 2018. According to an ASCAP analysis of streaming and terrestrial radio data, the hit classic "All I Want for Christmas Is You," written by ASCAP songwriter Walter Afanasieff and Mariah Carey, holds the No. 1 song position for the second year in a row. Holiday tunes by other famous veteran pop and rock artists that also made the list include George Michael’s "Last Christmas" at No. 7, Jose Feliciano’s "Feliz Navidad" at No. 17 and Paul McCartney’s "Wonderful Christmastime" at No. 25. In addition, the star-studded 1984 U.K. charity single "Do They Know It’s Christmas?" took the No. 24 spot. The track, which was co-written The Boomtown Rats’ Bob Geldof and Ultravox’s Midge Ure, features vocals by more than 20 artists, including George Michael, Bono, Sting, Phil Collins, Boy George, Simon LeBon and Bananarama. "You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch," an offbeat holiday favorite written by ASCAP members Theo Geisel (Dr. Seuss) and Albert Hague, lands on the ASCAP Top Holiday Songs list for the first time in many years at No. 15. A recent take on the classic, recorded by famed rapper Tyler, The Creator for the November release of the highly anticipated animated film The Grinch, show how the classic songs continue to appeal to new generations.
