Woody Allen may be persona non grata in Hollywood, but Scarlett Johansson would work with him “anytime.” The A-lister is one of the few stars to publicly signal her support for the director falling fall-out from #MeToo

Several stars, including Freida Pinto, Greta Gerwig, Colin Firth and Mira Sorvino expressed regret at working with him previously and pledged to never work with him again. But when The Hollywood Reporter asked Johansson, who worked with him on Match PointVicky Cristina Barcelona and Scoop, she had nothing but good things to say about the 83-year-old, whose daughter accused him of sexual assault. Allen denied all allegations and is currently in the process of battling Amazon, who also cut ties with him, pulling the plug on a reported $60 million contract.

“How do I feel about Woody Allen? I love Woody,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “I believe him, and I would work with him anytime.”

Johansson, 34, continued, “I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it. I have been very direct with him, and he’s very direct with me. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him.”

But she also understands why others don’t. “It’s hard because it’s a time where people are very fired up, and understandably,” she said. “Things needed to be stirred up, and so people have a lot of passion and a lot of strong feelings and are angry, and rightfully so. It’s an intense time.”
