  • IODE Thrift Shop

    Volunteer Opportunity
IODE Thrift Shop (1425 Ellis Street) - Kelowna
The Kelowna IODE Chapter, founded in 1943, runs what was the city's very first Thrift Shop. The store was staffed by women member volunteers who donated their time to make the shop profitable. The Thrift Shop enables people who cannot afford to purchase new items to buy nearly new and slightly used items at more affordable prices. All store profits return to the community in many forms. In addition, the profits have sent children to summer camps, bought valuable educational materials for Project Literacy and been used to award scholarships and bursaries to deserving students wishing to pursue post-secondary education. Unfortunately, the productive life of the IODE Thrift Shop and its good deeds may end. With increasing rent and dwindling membership, there are many volunteer positions that remain unfilled. All that would be required of any volunteer would be a morning or afternoon spent once a week or even once in 2 weeks helping the store. You could help save the IODE Thrift Shop! Please become a member or volunteer by calling Monique at 250-768-2949 or email Sally at jjandsal@telus.net.
