4 families displaced by overnight fire

Shortly after 1:00 Monday morning - crews from West Kelowna Fire Rescue responded to a report of a fire in a unit at Quail Court on Boucherie Road on the Westbank First Nation.

First arriving crews from Station #31 (Westbank) found 1 unit of the 5 unit multi family building was fully involved.

They quickly ensured that all occupants were out of the building and knocked the fire down, along with help from Station #32 (Lakeview) and Station #33 (Rose Valley).

Crews from Station #34 (Glenrosa) also assisted along with the RCMP, BCEHS, BC Hydro and Fortis Gas.

There were no injuries. Damage was contained to 1 of the 5 units. However, for safety, 4 families were displaced overnight and will be staying with friends and relatives or in the care of Emergency Support Services.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, but is considered suspicious. Fire investigators from WKFR and the RCMP will be at the scene in the morning to conduct the fire cause determination investigation.

A fire watch crew will remain on scene overnight.
