$60,000 in leftover flood prep money
Kelowna City Council will hear a recommendation on Monday on what to do with $60,000 in leftover flood funds.
Director of Infrastructure Alan Newcombe says council approved $100,000 earlier this year to go towards flood preparations.
“We ended up not using all of that money,” says Newcombe. “So what I’m asking Council for now is to transfer the balance of those funds into a separate project that will cover the assessment of the 2018 damage.”
If approved, the money will allow the City to hire consultants to perform the assessment, before the City looks to the province's Disaster Financial Assistance Program to help with repair costs.
Newcombe currently estimates about $2 million in damage from the 2018 flood season, compared to the $11 million in damage from the year before.
