B.C highways will be busy this long weekend.

Drivers may be tempted to speed to try to get to their destination, but ICBC is warning motorists to do the opposite.

"We want to remind people to make sure they plan a safe route and check for any conditions ahead for any crashes and make sure you allow a lot of time to get to your next destination."

Road Safety Coordinator Joanne Bergman says, on average, four people are killed and 630 people are injured across the province over the B.C. long weekend.

"Distractive driving is still one of the most common causes of crashes so we want to remember to leave our phones alone", Bergman added.

Last year, 78 people were injured in 360 crashes throughout the Southern Interior.
