BC Hydro hits record power consumption

The arctic air swinging through the province has set a record for power consumption.

BC Hydro says between 5 and 6 pm on Tuesday, demand came in at a whopping 10,126 megawatts, which sets a new record.

The old record was set at 10,113 megawatts, just over a decade ago on November 29, 2006.

The company says the timing isn't surprising, as weekdays between 4 and 8 pm in winter months is when the most energy is used.

BC Hydro says doing things like unplugging old electronics and washing laundry in cold water can start to add up in terms of savings.
