BC wildfire State of Emergency extended

BC's wildfire-driven provincial State of Emergency has been formally extended again - through September 15th - the fourth time this season it's been extended.

A State of Emergency declaration ensures federal, provincial and local resources can be delivered in a co-ordinated response to the wildfire situation in order to keep the public safe.

The province says it'll continue to provide ongoing, direct financial support to evacuees - $600 per-household - which will be renewed every 14 days until they return home.

And eligible small businesses can also now receive a $1,500 emergency grant through the Canadian Red Cross and the Province.

As of Friday morning, there were a total of 160 wildfires burning in BC, with 16 evacuation orders affecting over 3,622 people while another 13,670 are under Evacuation Alert.
