Body found in West Kelowna that of missing man

A 72-year-old West Kelowna man, who had gone missing for two weeks, has been found dead.

Kelowna RCMP say the body of Lawrence Hamilton was discovered, Sunday morning (Apr 8), in a wooded area near Smith Creek Road in West Kelowna.

Hamilton, who family described as an avid walker, was last spotted on video surveillance leaving Lakeview Lodge care home on Butt Road after visiting his mother on Sunday March 25th.

A combined total of nearly 30 volunteers from Central Okanagan Search And Rescue (COSAR), Vernon Search And Rescue and Penticton Search And Rescue had deployed teams throughout West Kelowna - and RCMP used both police service dogs and ATV's to conduct ground searches in both the urban and rural areas of West Kelowna. RCMP Air Services, along with a search and rescue aircraft, were also enlisted but Hamilton could not be found.

RCMP Corporal Jesse O’Donaghey says "RCMP have since notified Lawrence’s family of his tragic passing. We are deeply saddened and would like to extend our deepest sympathy and condolences, to both his family and friends, during this difficult time.”

Lawrence’s family has requested that their privacy be respected during their time of grief.

His death is not suspicious, and RCMP have handed the investigation over to the BC Coroners Service.
